Some current faves and a giveaway win

April 30, 2015

Look at these beautiful howlite bracelets I just won from fabulous Tamera of her eponymous blog Tamera Beardsley

Check out the beautiful packaging.
These bracelets have a satisfying weight to them, and are super smooth. The perfect addition to a summer wardrobe.

Tamera has a beautiful, artistic style. I admire the freedom and fun she has in styling her life. Thank you, Tamera, for your generous giveaway.

And now, a few of my current favorites.

Although you know I'm not giving up my heels, I do need a comfy shoe for running errands in. Minnetonka moccasins have been around forever, but I just now discovered how comfortable they are.

I might even get another pair, in navy. Or pink.

I've been experimenting with brighter lipstick, and I really need to outline my lips before I put it on. The brighter pink is not as forgiving as a nude lipstick, and I find I need to be much more careful in applying it. You know how most lip pencils feel like -- pencils? Hard on the lips, and hard to even see if you're not using a super-dark color?

This Rimmel Exaggerate lip pencil is soft, smooth, and so easy to apply. You can even outline your lips with it, then fill in, and use it on its own. This color is Enchantment.

Another thing I'm loving every morning is my waffle. Seriously, it's my favorite meal of the day.

oops . . . I started to eat this before I remembered to take a picture!
It's made with chocolate-flavored rice protein powder, eggs, cinnamon, banana, and almond milk. The recipe calls for egg whites only, but I use the whole egg. I also use a pat of butter. I've learned not to be scared of good fats.

This waffle is loaded with protein, and, unlike other waffles that leave you starving an hour later, this little guy keeps me chugging along for a good four hours or more until lunch time.

Warmer weather is coming . . . which means sandals and bare feet. My heels are so dry and they can crack in the winter if I don't take care of them, but actually summer can even be harder on them. Probably because I neglect putting lotion and socks on around the house; I much prefer bare feet!

Have to remember to keep using this . . .

I get this at Whole Foods, and it's the best thing I've found for those pesky heels.

One more favorite.

Beeswax candles.

Lovely, natural scent that doesn't compete with food, no paraffins, and made by bees! I do find beeswax hard to remove, so I don't often use tapers, which can drip on my linens. I like these little tea lights in my mercury glass holders. I light them at every meal -- even when I'm eating my waffle!

And they're nice to scatter around tables at dinner parties.

Thank you all for your encouraging comments regarding my weight loss. It really helps me, friends! You are all the best!! Seriously, this little corner of blogland is such a supportive and happy place. I'm so glad I took the leap and began blogging.

  1. Hi Deborah,
Wow you won pretty bracelets! I will have to try out the lipliner you are suggesting to try. I love everything you are sharing. Enjoy the rest of the week.

  2. Congrats on your win! Great jewelry for summer, especially. Thanks for the suggestion for smoothing our heels, too. Your waffle sounds very satisfying and the fruit looks delicious. Have a good upcoming weekend.

  3. What a great win, Deborah! Congratulations to you on receiving the bracelets. I enjoyed reading about some of your faves. It's always nice to hear what friends recommend.
    p.s the waffle looks fabulous!

  4. Fun win! Your breakfast looks seriously delicious!

  5. A very pretty, pearly present, Deborah, congrats! Your fresh fruit waffle looks and sound delicious. I made an oatmeal crepe this morning and drizzled it with pure Canadian maple syrup - scrumptious!

    Have a lovely Friday!

  6. Those are pretty bracelets - perfect for summery days. Yummy-looking waffle. My feet need some attention before I don the sandals!

  7. Congratulations on your beautiful bracelet! I agree with you that it will look fabulous with summer clothes. Chocolate waffles ... I couldn't stop at one (so I just don't start!). I've been "enjoying" oatmeal porridge a few times, but mostly it's just bran cereal mixed with apple and yogurt for me in the mornings ... quick & easy.

  8. Congrats on your beautiful win. Love all your favs and I use that lip pencil too and love it.
Those Mocs are gorgeous in gray.
    Happy May Day

  9. Thank you so much for sharing a few of your "favorite things". I'd love the recipe for that waffle. It looks delicious, and I'm trying to increase my protein intake vs. carbs. I am also looking into that soft lip liner (beautiful color!). Have a good weekend, and bravo to you on your continued success with your weight loss. I constantly struggle, but have decided to frame the idea as just better eating and not dieting. It does help, but it's a slow go. Rosie @ The Magic Hutch

  10. Love the waffle can you do a post of the protein powder you use and the receipe please? My Mom loved those Mocs she said they were so comforting to. Have a great weekend

  11. Congratulations on your beautiful win, Deborah.
Pearls can be fun with many outfits. I'm sure you will enjoy them.
When I was a ten I wore Mocs all the time and just loved them. I wouldn't be able to were them now as their to much like bare feet and I need a bit of support for my falling arches. You will like them since you like bare feet. :)
The berries are so delicious right now, and they look wonderful on your waffle.

    Have a beautiful week end.

  12. Beautiful photos, as always, and beautiful bracelets. And thanks for the inspiration.. I bought a Rimmel lipliner to perk up a paling wintry face!

  13. I love your faves Deborah!
My eyes are fixed on the waffle - what a breakfast.
I've never made my own waffles, I've bought frozen ones from the supermarket - I won't eat them now as they're full of sugar no doubt!
Like you I'm staying away from all processed food - cutting out sugar and flour.
I'm no longer craving sugar which is unbelievable as I was such a sweet fanatic!

What a beautiful giveaway you won - congratulations!
I love the beeswax candles too - they're natural and have such a soft fragrance.

    Enjoy your week sweet friend

  14. The waffle with lots of protein ... I could use that recipe. Looks divine.

  15. Vaseline is my favorite beauty balm. At night I put it on that delicate skin under my eyes, on my lips and slather it on my elbows and hands and knees and feet, especially in the winter. One of these nights I may just slide right out of bed.

I'm so delighted you are experimenting with a brighter lipstick. You won't be sorry. Once you find the right shade, your whole face will light up. Yes, you need to be more careful applying it (try a lipstick brush), and yes will need to line your lips. Try lining your lips w/your liner, then fill in the whole lip area w/the liner. Then, blot and apply your lipstick, blot again and add lipstick across the center area of your top and bottom lips, as that is usually where it fades first (we ladies just talk it away). If you need to, you can go back and fill in the edges, if it needs it, w/your liner.

Trust me, it's worth the extra minute or less it takes to do this. You'll find your lipstick will have more staying power.

    Cheers, M-T

  16. Deborah what a beautiful post! I am so glad you love the bracelets … they couldn't have found a more beautiful home! Thank you for the lovely shout out as well!

    All the Best,
    Tamera Beardsley

  17. Blogland really can be an encouraging, happy place -- I've found that to be SO true. I'm sure there are mean, snarky corners in the internet, but not here :) You really can make your blog the kind of place you want it to be!
I have EXACTLY those Minnetonkas! Had them for years. They wear like iron.
Your waffle looks scrumptious. Makes me want one for breakfast tomorrow!

Thank you for visiting! I'm truly delighted to hear from you.
