Halfway to my goal!

I sure wish the scale would take into account all the goodies I didn't eat over the weekend, instead of registering the few I did eat.

I didn't touch any of the Easter candy, despite filling four Easter baskets. I didn't eat any of the lemon squares I made. I passed up the potato casserole, the rolls, the salty ham, and the chocolate eclair. The first year ever I didn't stuff myself with jelly beans. Not. a. single. one.

But, unfortunately, the scale registered this morning that I did eat a hot cross bun on Friday, two blueberry pancakes that my son made Easter morning, and a slice of homemade carrot cake last night.

But it's all good, I tell myself. Back on track this morning. 

I am noticing that when I "cheat" I really don't feel well. The first bite or two is delicious, but when I'm done, I feel a little sick.

I'm taking this as a hopeful sign.

Halfway to my goal -- 21 pounds down, 21 to go. My reward will be a new fall wardrobe, carefully curated a la Project 333. After all, after 42 pounds, not much will fit. Not much is fitting even now. I'm starting a Project 333 Pinterest board to help motivate me. 

I'll share the link when I get it a little more together.

And I thought my book club was coming tonight. I had the dates mixed up. What am I going to do with the leftover carrot cake?

Some stuff that doesn't get eaten up today by my son (who is heading back to college today) will get thrown out. As much as I hate to waste food, I am not a human garbage can. If it can't be frozen, out it goes.

{Oh, I know. The carrot cake can be hidden until my daughter takes it to her Bible study. Good idea!}

So, yes, back to "black coffee and conversation" today.

I hope somebody out there enjoyed a few jelly beans for me!


  1. You are doing so well, Deborah, and congratulations on getting halfway to your goal. It's so smart to do it slowly, methodically and mindfully.

  2. You really are doing well, Deborah! I only had a few little Cadbury mini eggs. You know those wee ones? I do love chocolate but one has to keep their priorities straight. I sipped several cups of chocolate hazelnut black tea on the weekend and that helped me with my chocolate fix. Your white coffee mug and coloured eggs are so pretty.   3. Send the cake off with your son to college! Or better yet, take it to a local business that you frequent. They will appreciate your thoughtfulness, and it will make their day. My husband does this regularly when he bakes. We keep a little bit here, but the bulk of it goes to the hardware store, the P.O., the local marine store. We also often give it to neighbors. It keeps it out of your tummy and builds community :)

  4. Keep up the good work! It is difficult on these festive holidays but so worth it in the end...I am struggling with a few pounds and have my eye on the scale and have been very mindful about eating and walking.
    That new Fall wardrobe will be a wonderful reward!

  8. Aww Deborah you are being so good! It does sound like you had an amazing Easter dinner! I did cheat yesterday and I had some cookies and a half of a pastry. It is so hard to be good and you are an inspiration to us. I hope you have a nice week.

    Well done and I have not enjoyed jelly beans since 2007 and don't miss them.
    I've baked for the first time post-finger surgery etc. and that was some chocolate rounds with Agave Nectar and I used Dutch cocoa with egg beaters, whole wheat pastry flower... A healthy version and that too makes all the difference. At Church I placed one oval egg plate with 12 of those chocolate rounds between the many sweets that people brought for the Reception but I did not eat anything except some fresh mango and melon that somebody brought. It's not hard for me to stay away from such foods, I'm used to it and eat at home healthy and my apple a day; just the core removed and not peeled! Half a banana with breakfast and for supper Greek yogurt with some fresh berries or other fruit of the season. Lots of fresh fruits and also veggies.

  18. I did! Eat some jellybeans for you that is. So proud of you Deborah to have lost so much weight and sticking to your healthy eating plan. I have not been as successful and part of the problem is my knee with the torn ligament - I haven't been able to do any walking. Surgery at the end of the month though and I can become active again and burn off the jelly beans. :-)

  19. Congratulations! How exciting! I like that sugar free vanilla soda flavoring for Italian ice that they sell at World Market. It's great in coffee or cold coffee or soda water, but you may want to avoid those sweeteners; I do, but I do need something now and then. Fresh mint is good in tea.

  20. Congrats on the halfway mark! You can do it! Think of the clothes :). I've been cheating a bit too much (pretty much all the foods you have avoided over the weekend...including the Easter candy...sigh). I'll take your progress as inspiration to get back on the bandwagon!

    I've been battling increasing weight over the last few years - it's quite depressing.
    What regime are you following Deborah - any tips/pointers will be gratefully received!!
    You were so good over Easter and I know you will be back on track again now, so celebrate the positives.

    I haven't heard of Project 333, so I will have a look at that too!
