Try to Remember

September 18, 2015

A friend brought over these gorgeous hydrangeas the other night. They're huge! And yes, I'm doing some paper crafts -- we haven't been able to eat at the kitchen table for three days! Will show you soon.

Anyone remember this old song?

Try to remember the kind of September
When life was slow and oh so mellow.
Try to remember the kind of September
When grass was green and grain was yellow.
Try to remember the kind of September
When you were a tender and callow fellow.
Try to remember and if you remember,
then follow, follow.

And it goes on, but I have to turn it off . . .

I don't know, friends. It's kind of a sappy song, but it gets me every time. I can't listen to it without weeping. Not a few tears, but full-blown, head down on the table weeping.

Is there a song that has that effect on you?

  4. Oh my, yes, quite a few actually. Must be feeling melancholy. The Days of Wine and Roses will bring up that kind of emotion. Such songs are very good for when a good boo hoo is needed as long as I don't stay there; I'd be a wreck.

  5. Hi Deborah, oh this one gets me too. I cry at many songs that touch my heart like this one. Even a melody without words will move me to tears. Lovely hydrangeas my friend. Have a great weekend.cm

  6. Sailing, Christopher Cross "Well, it's not far down to paradise, at least it's not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away and find tranquility
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see
    Believe me."

  7. Beautiful hydrangeas! Moon River has that wistful quality for me. Don't you think that weeping is healthy?

  8. Dearest Deborah,
Lovely Hydrangeas and there is nothing wrong with strong sentiments that overcome us when hearing specific songs. It is music, songs, flowers, scents that can cause such strong emotions and it will stay with us till our end. But let's embrace the fact that we are human and it is perfectly all right.
    Hugs and happy Sunday!

  10. The hydrangeas are gorgeous, Deborah!
I love that song. I thought it was from the play, The Fantasticks, which I saw when I was in high school??
Happy Sunday to you, my friend.

  11. The September Song does that for me, always has. But then I cried when I was talking on the phone to my 3 year old granddaughter last week and I asked her what her favorite song in Mary Poppins was. She sang, ever so sweetly--"Let's go fly a kite....."

Auld Lang Syne does that to me too....Nearer My God to Thee....New York, New York....

  12. There's a melancholy that hits me when the seasons change. It hits off and on and nothing like a song such as this to set one off when summer's coming to a close.

  13. Oh, Deborah, that song has always (like, since I was a girl) had that same effect on me. Something about the melody. It's so plaintive. It sounds not just sad, but a little painful as if the singer is remembering something loved and lost. Hm. I might go find it on youtube.
