New beginnings

September 13, 2016

Closeup of the bridal bouquet.

It was perfect, the wedding. I'm grateful everything came together so beautifully. My daughter looked radiant. And I have a new son! I always wanted more than three children, and now I have five, with a beautiful daughter-in-law as well. We have been blessed.

I will post some more pictures when we get the professional ones, but here are a few hastily taken by me on my iPhone.

The beautiful bridal party, getting ready at our house that morning.

My eyes are closed, but love this.

So wonderful to see the love these two have for each other.
Our last guest, my mom, just left yesterday, so I am slowly getting back to normal life, and realizing it is fall, if not technically, at least weather-wise. It's my absolute favorite time of year.

Right now, the windows are open, the temps are in the 70s, and we have sunshine and low humidity. Love it. Michigan does fall right. In my opinion, it's her best season.

So what am I going to do with my time now that I'm not planning a wedding?

I have all kinds of ideas and plans running through my head. The beginning of a new school year always feels like a fresh start to me. The humidity, that oppressive and dulling force that causes such languor, has been blown away by a fresh wind. Possibilities abound!

There's a kitchen and bath reno planned. The kitchen cupboards have already been emptied. There's a trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula to see the beautiful fall colors. There's painting to do, and I'll be organizing a craft/writing room for myself (I'm taking over my daughter's bedroom). I've already planned my writing desk to be positioned so I can see the birds at the feeders. I'm determined to do NaNoWriMo this year, and not just for one month only.

And I'm learning to knit socks. Kind of. Help!! I don't know what I'll do when I get to the heels. None of my friend knit. Watch You-Tube videos? I sure wish some of my blogger friends who knit lived close. I'd provide all the tea and scones you want if only you'd sit with me and help me through these!

Yes, the Very Bad Cat chewed through my yarn last night.
I'm figuring these socks are going to be worth somewhere around $350 if they ever get done!  And that's earning way less than minimum wage. ha. But I won't be selling them. I'm planning on being nice and cozy in front of the fire this winter, with these on my feet, and a book in my lap.

It's good to be back. I've missed visiting with you all.

xo Deborah

It sound like you have lots of plans coming up. Good for you.

Enjoy knitting your socks. I bet there are plenty of sock knitting you tube videos. I watch videos to learn things too. I just have to stop and replay until I get it.

  16. A beautiful bride and bridesmaids. The softness of the dresses is lovely. You look wonderful, eyes open or closed!
I'm about to embark on a sock knitting adventure, too. Too bad we weren't closer for when it gets to the heels - we could be the blind leading the blind!

  17. Hi Deborah, The wedding pics are gorgeous. Your daughter is a lovely bride and she and her hubby are a beautiful couple. Love the photo of you and your daughter together. Special memories certainly. Looking forward to more photos of the wedding. Glad you can get some rest now and enjoy the process knitting the socks. I do a little just straight knitting so I'm no help. I do more crocheting. Have fun and a great rest of the week. xo

  19. Oh, I love weddings and a daughter's wedding is so very special! Such a beauty, just like her Mom. All the dresses are so gorgeous and everyone looks so lovely. Such a happy day filled with so much love. Can't wait to see more. Fall is such a wonderful season - I agree! I wish I could help with the knitting, but I only crochet. I would be knitting two left feet, I'm sure. The socks already look so cozy. Sending hugs xo Karen

  20. Congratulations on your daughter's wedding! She is indeed radiant and the wedding photos look lovely. Am looking forward to seeing more. I taught myself to knit socks a few years ago and felt rather as you do. I am certain of your success. Please post a photo of those socks on your feet when they are completed. I have followed your blog for several months now and enjoy your posts; we have many interests in common. Happy autumn (my favourite season.)

  21. Oh, Deborah, everything looks so beautiful, especially your smiles. Absolutely dreamy colors. I'm so glad I stopped by today. What to do after wedding planning for a whole year has been quite a journey for me this year, but I'm slowly coming back to life again. There's always so much to do, especially if we fix our eyes on the One we do all for.

  22. Gorgeous photos of a gorgeous mom and her daughter! I am delighted to see soft pastels on the bridesmaids! I am so tired of black, navy, and burgundy which they still seem to insist on wearing here in the wedding parties. The pink is so very feminine. I wish your lovely daughter and her new hubby all the happiness in the world. God bless them!
Those will be quite the socks when they're finished! I love your sense of humour. I'm sure they will be just dandy and all your friends will want a pair.

    Hugs,
    Sandi

  23. Oh what a beautiful bride. The bridesmaids look so pretty too in their pastel gowns. I am so happy for you. Congratulations to the new couple. I must say, mom looks pretty stunning also.

Glad things are getting back to normal. Weddings can be so stressful.

    Hugs,

  24. Beautiful wedding - you and your daughter look so beautiful - as does the bridal party and those flowers! I can't wait to hear all about it. We may have to talk on the phone again soon, my sweet friend! ♥

WE never got that great 70s low humidity weather. I blame Maize and Blue = cuz this Scarlet and Grey has been hot hot hot. : - )

    Hugs and love.

  25. Hi, Deborah! I'm catching up (again) :) So lovely to see photos of your beautiful daughter on her radiant day! Very happy for your family. As for socks ... I've knitted almost two pairs. I really, really need to finish the second pair; I've had the 2nd sock from that pair on the needles for YEARS. haha! I did conquer the heels. But it was discouraging to work so hard on something, and then have the heels wear through :( So I'm done with socks. Good luck!

  26. Dearest Deborah,
You noticed that I'm going backwards, reading your posts... I'd seen the photos on FB but while I was in Europe there was no time to be on the Internet much!
What a lovely photos you got indeed, and such fond memories of a perfect day. Congratulations again, it makes a Mother's heart feel proud.
Yes, on this day you posted, we were back in The Netherlands, arrived from Germany the day before. As a matter of fact I did drive with my youngest sister to my oldest cousin (84) on Mom's side to visit her and visiting 2 more of our first cousins from Mom's side. Also I got to visit my first elementary school friend that moved out of town with her parents while we were in 3rd grade. We did write letters but later it kind of ended... My 1st cousin is married to a man with the same last name so when I asked her if she was related, she said: 'No, but I know who you're talking about and she's on FB'. So I actually did find her back and also on LinkedIn and now we got to meet in person. Such a lovely evening, a couple of hours... before I drove to my 2nd brother who had a business meeting till 8:00 PM. That was lovely too. He lives the farthest away from my Dad and the others.
    Memorable days...
Sending you hugs and isn't it funny that this night, at 4:00 AM (I could not sleep... was in bed by 9:15 PM) I got to look at all the wedding pictures from France. That was like a fairytale wedding with tropical temperatures and in a lovely setting. We went the extra mile but it was so worth it.
