Water and veggie "tea"

July 12, 2015

I am trying hard to hold onto my 30-pound weight loss these days. I haven't lost any weight in a month. Soon, I hope to get back in gear and lose the final 10.

To compensate for some of the food splurges lately, I have to make sure I eat lots of veggies and drink lots of water.

I am not a water drinker. I really prefer diet Coke. Fortunately, I've kicked that habit.

But sometimes, instead of plain water, it's nice to have a flavored, sparkly water like La Croix. I like the grapefruit flavor best. (Don't you just love the French word for grapefruit -- pamplemousse?)

Or, a Pelligrino. Here, I have it in a recycled Bonne Maman jam jar, but it's also nice in a vintage wine glass with a wedge of lime. I will do this when everyone else is having a glass of wine, and I want to be "fancy" too.

The hydrangeas are dried from last summer's garden, and a little dusty. I'll soon be cutting new blooms to replace these. Love the soft colors.

This plate is one of four I have in green, pink, yellow, and blue, called Old English, by Johnson Brothers. Each has a different fruit, and I've arranged my veggies and fruit so you can see the apple on the green plate.

Reading A City of Bells by Elizabeth Goudge right now. Love it.

Thanks for your visit, friends.

(Joining Sandi for tea today.)

  1. 30 pounds is a great accomplishment, Deborah. Congratulations. I love your white tea-pot. It's so pretty. Aren't the strawberries amazing right now. I've eaten far too many of them and unfortunately they usually have a piece of shortcake attached. Enough of that. :-b
Have a wonderful week. Hugs, Deb

  2. I often am reminded that eating and drinking is not only for sustenance, but a treat for the senses. When we serve drinks and food with flair then a low calorie drink and a plate of healthy food are a treat filling us completely. That being said, it is very hard not to think of and long for the rich meal and very unhealthy drink. I love how you've shown ways to serve your healthy choices. Keep up the good work Deborah , only 10 little pounds to go !

  3. You're such a joy to read. :) You make me happy every time.

  4. A big huge congrats on losing so much weight !!
I am on the trip downward myself, and I know how difficult it is. You are to be pampered a bit, I think.
I just read that drinking anything fizzy adds gassy bubbles to our stomachs (sounds bad) and just to drink plain water, or infused water. I love Perrier and Diet Coke and this makes me crazy. But I'm just finishing unpacking from the big move and seeing garments which I used to wear has made me realize how much I've gained. I think some women always have a weight fight and I'm one of them. xx's

  5. I am not a fan of plain water either, I am a tea drinker with milk not really a healthy choice but the best I can do is add low fat milk. Love the plate, I know the pattern well my sister has the full set, a family treasure.

  6. You are an inspiration! Congrats on the weight loss. As Kathy comments, you make your food/beverage look very appealing. Wishing you a nice Monday.

  7. I'm so proud of you and your 30 pound weight loss, Deborah!!! That deserves a big cheer for you with some Pellegrino water or a La Croix. Hooray!!! Your healthy treats look beautiful on your lovely plate, too.

  8. My dear Deborah, I am so happy for you and the 30 pounds you have lost! What an incredible accomplishment, my friend. I agree with Kitty, that deserves a big cheer! :)

You are a beautiful inspiration to me and so many others....thank you. Have a blessed Monday. Hugs!

  9. Dearest Deborah,
Congrats on having kicked the habit for drinking sodas! Even the light versions are not good for us.
Glad that I've never ever been drinking sodas during my life time. Water is the very best and by far the safest way. Any canned drinks still contain BPA traces...
Yes, fruits and veggies are a must add to our daily diet and we both love eating them.
Sending you summer hugs from a hot Georgia.

  10. You are doing wonderfully! Your veggies look so tempting. And that reminds me, I have a jar like that in the fridge at the moment. That's a "tea" we can all join you with!

  11. Hi Dear Deborah, you have accomplished so much losing 30 pounds. It is a great achievement. Love your pretty plates and the fresh fruit dish. The water sounds so refreshing. Have a great day and be blessed.
    Hugs, cm

  12. Jars make wonderful and unique receptacles for sipping our beverages. I have the green and the pink JB plates. I would like to come across a blue and a yellow one too sometime. Love your teapot! Your salad looks good too. Thanks for joining me for tea and once again, congrats on your accomplishment!

  13. Elizabeth Goudge is one of my old favorite authors! I believe that my best friend has every one of her books. I enjoy reading them when I visit her each summer. Your 'tea' looks very healthy and pretty on that Johnson Brothers plate.

  14. Congrats on your successful weight loss, Deborah! Best of luck with the last 10 pounds!

Love the idea of reusing old jam jars as fancy drinkwares!

  15. BRAVO Deborah ... 30 pound is quite a feat...We're on a weight kick too... and hubby has lost 10 pounds just cutting out the gluten .. Your veggies look fabulous on the JB plate ... and french words definitely make one feel elegant ( ha Ha)...Have a beautiful day ...Hugs

  16. Such a pretty table you have set, Deborah! The plates are lovely and your veggie treats and flavored waters are pretty and healthy! Those last 10 lbs are always the hardest. With your inspiration I have lost 10 lbs so far. Congratulations on your weight loss - it takes such discipline! Hugs xo Karen

  17. Congratulations, Deborah on maintaining that 30 pound weight loss. That's a huge feat of self-discipline. I love water, too, and often flavor mine with mint or lemon or cucumber. Enjoy the fruit and veggies!

  18. OMG pretty girl! Congrats indeed, you are now looking more beautiful than ever!
I love fruit and veggies juice and are great for health and to maintain our weight.
I try hard too to keep the 20 pounds I lost 3 years ago OFF!!! You mean 10 more to goooo!!!!!!!
You go girl and let me know how you did it!
    Have a fun week sweetie.

  19. How wonderful to hear of your journey. You turn eating well into an art -- a beautiful one. What lovely plates -- that one with the apple reminds me a little of one my mom had when I was a girl.

Wishing you grace to stay the course you've set for yourself.

  20. I don't know if you've tried it yet but my DIL and I make a lemon water with cucumbers and mint. So it's just a refreshing water...no sugar like in lemonade. But once I have used up a pitcher of that I want some lemonade though i've found if I put mint and a few squeezed Clementine oranges into it I need far less sugar ...

Your fruit and veggies look delicious on that pretty plate ! :)

  21. I can't remember if I've read City of Bells? But I do love Goudge.

I'll have to look for the La Croiz drink.

  22. That's a very healthy-looking plate, Deborah! Good for you. I never could like Perriere (sp?), but flavored water is lovely. Kind of like lemon-water? I drink no soda now, and no sweet iced tea :( I do miss that sometimes but the sugar is too much now that I'm not used to it. The plates are really lovely!

Thank you for visiting! I'm truly delighted to hear from you.
