Happy New Year

December 31, 2014

Remember the old Steve Miller Band's Fly Like An Eagle?

Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin'
Into the future . . .

Sometimes, minutes and hours can drag, but how is it that years, even decades, just fly?

I had a cancer scare this year. I'm incredibly thankful I'm healthy. But who knows what the future holds? I could live one more year. I could live 35 more years. No matter how long, one thing's certain . . .  it's going to go fast.

I want it to count.

I'll never be famous. That's okay. I'll never achieve anything near greatness, at least in the eyes of the world.

I think more like Anne.

"I'd like to add some beauty to life," said Anne dreamily. "I don't exactly want to make people KNOW more . . . but I'd love to make them have a pleasanter time because of me . . . to have some little joy or happy thought that would never have existed if I hadn't been born."

(from Anne's House of Dreams, L.M. Montgomery)

And, I do hope to receive a "Well done, good and faithful servant . . . " when I'm finished here.

How am I going to live in 2015? How will I live in the time left to me? Time does keep on slipping' . . .  and I want to live as if The Beautiful Matters.

Wishing you a beautiful 2015, dear friends.

  1. A scare like that is the worst and really wakes you up. I love these beautiful quotes and will copy them in my journal today. Happy New year sweet friend. Hugs, Diane

  15. Beautiful post, Deborah.
I love the poem of Anne.
I have been blessed through your blog and look forward to the New Year with what you will share with us.
May we always strive to walk closely with our Jesus, bringing honor and glory to His name.

Many blessings to you in this New Year ahead of us.

    Joy! Debbie

  16. Happy New Year Deborah! We're both on the same wavelength when it comes to thinking beauty is important to our days. We don't know what this year holds so we need to embrace and be thankful for each day.

  17. Nice post, Deborah. You are so right...time is slippin and the beautiful does matter.

Anyone who gardens knows how much their beautiful flowers add to the well being of the people that live there. Who can walk past a peony bush in full bloom and not smile? Smile knowing when that peony was first planted it needed the help of a gardener to place a ring around the stems the first few years for support. Otherwise, the heavy flowers would just flop to the ground. Smile knowing the blooms would never open if the ants in the area didn't crawl up and down the plant and break open the blooms.

God knew exactly what he was doing when he made the peony. He wanted to remind us that we all need each other and it all starts with something beautiful.

Happy New Year, my dear friend!

  18. Dearest Deborah,
Know that feeling as I was sent to the Emory University Hospital's Cancer Center in 2013. Turned out I had a complex Adnexal tumor and it was growing fast. Had my surgery in October and feel so much better since; turned out it was cancer free.
Yes, we have to live each day fully and be prepared for the unexpected...
Wishing you many blessings for 2015!

  19. Happy New Year, Deborah! LOVE the quote from Anne's House of Dreams. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. Hoping your New Year is blessed and beautiful :)

  20. Thanks for this reminder! When we lost our Grandson, things that were not important just slipped away!
Time really does go so fast! Happy New Year
    Blessings, Roxy

  21. Good thoughts! That is a good quote from Anne's House of Dreams; I hadn't heard it before. It's a worthy goal, and one I want to strive for as well. Have a beautiful New Year!

  24. You have captured in one simple post everything I have been thinking for the past few months.

I am glad to read your cancer scare has left you knowing you're healthy, but I think even if it had proven true, you'd still be encouraging & uplifting. Hence the "well done..."

Amen Sister, and thank-you for being simply you.

Thank you for visiting! I'm truly delighted to hear from you.
