December tea

December 21, 2014

My husband's birthday was last week, and I surprised him with this beautiful teacup. I found it last summer when we were vacationing up north.

A teacup probably wasn't on the top of his wish list, but he was gracious about it, and even said he liked it. (I did get him another present, too.)

My mom always paints birthday cards for us, and she painted this card for my husband. On the back it says, "Hope yew have a Happy Birthday." Get it?

Because my husband prefers pie, we had homemade apple pie instead of birthday cake.

So, of course, I've already borrowed his teacup for tea. These salted caramels are amazing.

My nephews in Colorado (aged 8, 11, and 13) participate in a young entrepreneurs' marketplace every year where they sell products they have made. This year, they sold gluten-free baking mixes and granola, so they sent us a box for Christmas.

We are not gluten free, but half the ladies in my book club are, so these will be great to make up for book club nights at my house.

They also sent scone mix, waffle mix, granola, and granola bars.

Wyatt, of "Wyatt's Wonderful Waffles" is eight years old.

All our children are home, and I am one happy mama. Not much to do now except cooking and enjoying their company.

Thank you all for being such dear and encouraging friends this year. I have so appreciated reading your comments and getting to know you. I'll be around this week, but mostly I'm going to concentrate on family and celebrating Jesus' birth. Blessings to you and yours, xo Deborah.

  1. Hi Deborah, So glad your children are home. Being with family helps make Christmas special. Love your husband's teacup! The card and bear are cute too. It is special that your mother paints birthday cards. The pie looks great too - there's nothing like homemade pie! :)

  3. How wonderful your children are home my friend. Your hubby's teacup is lovely, and funny, but my hubs also prefers pies opposed to b'day cakes, lol! You have a talented mom too and I love it that you have a book club.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.

  4. What a lovely post, Deborah. I like your husband was sweet about getting a tea cup. My dentist's wife collects them - and he knows I do/have/will.....and he in the sweetest way asked me once a while ago "Um, you know I love drinking tea out of a china cup, I just wish they all didn't have flowers on them!"

So, of course I set out to find a "manly" one (after suggesting he settles for a mug and he hated the idea, shocking I know............) So I found a gorgeous all black with gilding Royal Albert one and made him up a manly plaid teacup basket with goodies and you'd think he won the lottery he was so happy.

My point is, manly men CAN and often DO enjoy tea in nice teacups! : - )

I have been so busy hosting and enjoying other's social gatherings I am super behind in reading and posting, so hopefully I can work on tomorrow a bit more with catching up!

  5. Dearest Deborah,
Enjoy your family and I bet you are a happy Mama!
Love the teacup and funny, your husband sounds almost 'Dutch' with his preference for a pie. That's the tradition I'm brought up with; apricot-, cherry-, apple- or crumble pie and for special versions; topped with whipped cream!
Enjoy a most blessed Merry Christmas as a family together; cozy in your home with goodies you bake and cook. Happy New Year to all in good health.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  10. The December birthday tea cup is so pretty! At least your husband does drink tea, so that makes a good excuse to buy the cup right there. My husband is not a fan of any hot drink ... I have a cupboard full of pottery mugs and tea cups regardless. It's such a wonderful feeling to have your family all back together again at Christmas time. My daughter has come home now too, and it's so nice to have my family complete! The gifts from your nephews look delicious, and I'll bet they had fun getting that package ready for their auntie ;) Have a very Merry Christmas and all the best to you in the New Year Deborah!!
