Peace like a river

August 13, 2015

I've been in the city too long. I didn't realize how much I missed being out in the natural world until a friend took me to see this . . .

Ocqueoc Falls near Onaway, Michigan
We used to go camping every summer with our children. We have so many happy memories of those times. Canoeing, hiking, swimming, roasting marshmallows over an open fire, watching the stars come out . . .  Standing by this waterfall, listening to the water, feeling the sun and breeze on my face, I felt those memories come flooding back.

It was so peaceful here; I would love to fall asleep to the sound of this water.

I need to do this more often.

  1. Oh my, indeed yes.

We used to camp ALL the time - but as I find we're getting older it's a little more difficult to "bounce back" after sleeping on the earth.

Be sure to watch for the Perseid Meteor shower tonight, last night was strongest, but should still be out there tonight as well!

  2. As long-time campers (from tent to currently our motorhome) there's nothing more healing than being close to nature, hearing the sounds, feeling the breeze. Life is gentler when we step away from the artificial noise that we must live around.

  3. Oh, this is beautiful! It was restorative, I'm sure. It reminds me of the many trips my family took when I was a child, before interstates were built and we traveled to Asheville NC to visit family, following the French Broad River up through the mountains. Just the sound of the water rushing over boulders is something I still remember, never fails to soothe me when we return.

  4. There's nothing more restorative than being out in God's beautiful creation. Everything seems to slow down and come into clearer focus. Glad you had this experience. It looks like a gorgeous spot.

  6. Oh Deborah, what a peaceful, tranquil scene! My late beloved and I used to take our four kids camping, when we lived in Ohio. What wonderful memories I have of those days!

  8. Gorgeous, Deborah!

I need to do that too. I haven't been near a stream in a very long time.

    I hope you're enjoying your weekend :)

  9. Dearest Deborah,
Would love to be at such a place right now. Worked a bit too hard the last couple of weeks. But Saturday I've pulled of a very successful Etiquette Class for girls at our home; feeling proud after reading the stories that got tagged to my FB.
Wishing you tranquility as well and enjoy summer.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  10. Sometimes you don't realize how badly you need it until you get there. I'm not a city girl. I wither and pine when in an urban area for too long. Glad you got to visit a place you love so much.
